Apparently, this is the week of medical problems. Pumpkin started to limp and then refused to walk at all last night. She couldn’t take a step without her right leg giving out on her. I debated with myself for about 20 minutes before Ben stepped in and said I should take her. So, I did. We spent 7 hours in the waiting room before being seen. Apparently, a 2 year old who can’t walk is categorized a 4 on a 5 point scale with 1 being the most urgent. Ugh. I debated leaving, but was afraid I wouldn’t get an appointment at the peds clinic the next morning and would end up back at the ER. I should’ve gone home. I was finally at the point of if the next time the nurses call names and we’re not called, I’m driving to the peds clinic (which opens at 7–it was almost 5 am by this time) and demanding to be seen when they opened. Luckily, (for me or for the peds clinic), Pumpkin’s name was called.
From start to finish, we were out in 1 1/2 hours. I almost wished it lasted longer because we were getting comfortable on the hospital bed with a blanket. Speaking of blankets–why is the waiting area SO cold?
Diagnosis: They don’t know. She doesn’t have a broken bone. No dislocated joint. The doctor was concerned about an infection in her joints caused by an upper respiratory infection (she was coughing, but I think it’s allergies). Anyway, we’re home. I’m a bit rested because Ben stayed home to let me sleep a little. Pumpkin and I slept together for about 4 hours. It was bliss.
I’m a day behind schedule in preparing for a birthday party, but at least my mind is at peace.
I’m leaving you with yet another picture from Hawaii–one of Pumpkin with what she considers posing. It’s very cute.
