  • My children are learning first hand and the hard way about first, second and third order effects of actions.  We went this morning to purchase tickets for the Nutcracker.  The children asked if they could go wander into the theater.  I said no.  They ignored me (why bother asking?).  Honey tripped and twisted her ankle and strained it.  So, she is unable to walk.  She will be resting for the foreseeable future until she can put weight on it.

That means we will not be able to go to the Christmas tree farm as we had planned on Friday with our homeschool group.  We don't have any other time to go.  So, unless something happens to free up some time for us, we will not have a tree except for the small fake one we have in the play room.

Not a fun lesson to learn, but hopefully one that will stick.

Please pray for quick healing for Honey.  Our performances are coming up rapidly.

Ben returned from TDY this evening.  He had no sooner walked in when I walked out.  I put dinner on for him and the children.  I needed to get to the craft store for some fabric and other notions.  And, I needed to do it without children so I can think.  It's not that they are bad at the store, but the questions and the comments are very distracting.  I can't concentrate on what I'm doing.  I didn't find all I needed.  I know another store in the Austin area has it so I'll be there on Black Friday.  I usually get a really good coupon for Black Friday so I'll go.

Speaking of Black Friday.  I love Black Friday.  I used to think only crazy people went, but I really enjoy getting out there and shopping really early.  Or is it that I like shopping solo.

Lest you think I don't enjoy my children's company, I want to say, I do.  It's just that with four children who have so many different directions of thought, it's hard for me to maintain my train of thought.  It's gotten worse the older I have gotten, but then I wonder if it's because there are way more things in my brain than before.

I've gotten out of the habit of taking photos of the kids.  I need to get back to it.  I LOVE my camera, but it's very unwieldy to have in my purse.  I need to just have it with me at all times.  I'll have to figure something out.  My photographer brother asked me to take the photos at his baby's baptism.  I said I would do it, but I stressed about it the whole time.  He had his camera all ready to go.  It was very fun using his camera.  He needs a neck strap for it though.  I stressed the whole time about dropping this very, very expensive camera.

I thought the comments on my spider post very interesting.  You had the "Ewwww.  Just kill it." camp and the crazy nature loving camp who thought I should've let it live.  One word.  Shovel.  And, I hit it about a dozen times.  It lost all its legs.  No regrets.  Not one.

    Thanksgiving.  Not ready.  At all.

My brother David who is the youngest in the family is engaged to be married to a lovely young lady.  They're saving money for a wedding in April 2012.  She is bringing her parents to meet us all soon.  I don't think they know what they're getting themselves into.

I'm on hat number 5.  I'm using Wool-Ease this time.  I'm not sure I like how it knits up in this fiber.  I need to try 100% wool next.  It's definitely not a cold weather, keep the wind out of my hair hat but works well as a cute as a button hat.

This last one is almost done.  I'm decreasing.  I'm sure I'll finish while waiting for Brother to get out of Speech and OT.  I'll cast on another one as well.  I also made a scarf using my friend's variation of the feather and fan.

These are some of the books I'm perusing.  Not much serious reading going on here with Nutcracker sewing and Christmas knitting going on.

Anyone know what kind of spider this is?  Ben, who is a serious arachnophobic, found it at the side of the house.  Being a good dad, he called his children over to check it out.  After I took pictures, I killed it.

    What?

Would you have let it live?

The ballet moms were talking today and we realized that we are at the one month mark.  Exactly one month from today will be our first Nutcracker performance.  Ack!

Honey was sick earlier this week.  She woke up Tuesday and didn't go straight to a book.  That added with a 100.4 fever clued me in that she did not feel well.  At all.  Her arm is also better.  Back to normal according to Sister.

My friend, Cecelia, of bowmaking fame was reviewed on this cool blog, Meet the Boutique.  Bows by CeCe is taking off and I'm not surprised.  Her attention to detail is incredible.  The bows are amazing.  I love them all.  I have to hold myself back.  Often.

We are going over to a dear friend's tomorrow morning for Pumpkin to receive her second knitting lesson.  I wonder if she'll stick for more than 5 minutes.  She enjoys the idea and I'm sure she'll really enjoy the reality.  She is my daughter, after all.

I can't believe Thanksgiving is in two weeks.  'Nuff said.

Brother is growing up so fast.  I can't believe how far he has come in the past few years.  I can't thank his therapists enough.

    ~7~

I'm tired.  I don't have a lot going on in my mind at the moment.  During the week, I'll think of things and will want to put it in my Quick Takes.  Today, it's all gone.  Seriously.  Where'd all my words go?

  • I first saw an article referring to Barbara Bush's miscarriage this morning.  The headline made it seem so macabre, "Fetus in Bottle".  That part is so minor in the story.  Here's one quote:

The attachment to the fetus lasts long after the pregnancy is over, for months and sometimes years

Throughout this entire article the author and those he quotes use the term fetus.  Well, I can tell you why the attachment lasts so long.  That fetus?  It's a baby.  From day one.  If it was not alive, would we be so devastated at its loss?  No!  From the minute I find out I'm pregnant I have loved each and every one of my children.  I lost two to miscarriage.  The pain and sorrow still lingers to this day.

  • Ginny over at Small Things is having a Yarn Along.  Basically you share your knitting project and a book you are reading.  I usually have a couple of books going on at once.  I'm reading the 4th Warrior book, Rising Storm and my secret indulgence, popular fiction.  My current read is on my iPhone on the Kindle app.

I'm knitting another hat.  An online friend asked for one for her daughter.  I hope the colors work
