• Let your chief study be to acquaint yourself with God because there is nothing greater than God, and because it is the only knowledge which can fill the heart with a peace and joy, which nothing can disturb.

  • 2010 is here already.  Where did 2009 go?  Not that I'm not glad to see it go, but still didn't we just celebrate the beginning of 2009?  It did start so hopefully.

I've been really soul searching and trying to come up with things to help me fix the things I'm not happy with.  Father Richard on Friday said, "If you don't have any resolutions, you are spiritually dead.  You should always WANT to improve as a person."  I agree.  So, here's what I'm working on.

Each year I pick a word to help me focus on improving one thing in my life.  This year, after a long time spent contemplating, I came up with order or rather, I snitched it.  I need order my life, my schedule, my daily tasks, my prayer life, my spiritual life, my children's homeschool.  I could go on and on.  You get the picture.

One thing I'm working on besides order is tone of voice.  My children have been sniping at each other quite a bit.  I snapped scolded them and then realized that I'm modeling the exact behavior that I abhor in them.  So, I'm working on not using such an ugly tone of voice.  I'm going to work on not yelling.  This is going to be a tall order since I'm essentially a single parent for the next year.  Please pray for me on this one.  It's something I know I've been needing to work on.

I need to work out some more details but I'll try to post some ideas and plans that I have.

  • A very dear friend sent me a care package to get me through this deployment.  She made me cry.  Ben will tell you it takes quite a bit to do that.  Thank you, Jennifer.

Do you know how hard it is to get a picture while trying to keep out the mess in the background?

This is what greeted us this evening on our way to mass.  SNOW!  The flakes were really big too.  The kids were so excited and happy.  The were saying, "This is the best Christmas ever!"  When I reminded them that Daddy was not here, they revised it to "This is one of the best Christmases ever!"

  • There are too many things to report.

    1. My nephew has been hospitalized since Saturday.  He had been having breathing problems for a week brought on by a viral infection.  It came to a head on Saturday.  The Children's Hospital admitted him.  He couldn't get enough oxygen even with an oxygen mask.  He was able to graduate to a cannula on Sunday and then today, he went off oxygen.  This evening he went back on the oxygen.  I guess he's not quite ready to come home.  Please pray for my little nephew.  His name is Ryan and he is 4.  I really hope he doesn't have to spend Christmas in the hospital.
    2. Nutcracker is over.  It's always sad and a relief when this happens.  Sister would dance in a 100 shows if she could.  Honey did very well despite her cough.  The bodices looked wonderful as did the waltz overskirts.
    3. Ben has finally arrived at his destination.  Hopefully, we'll be able to set up some regular correspondence.
    4. My mother was helping out this weekend.  She did mounds of laundry, cooked, cleaned and babysat.  I learned some humility this weekend when she cleaned my bathroom (very embarrassingly icky).
    5. My Christmas cards are going out late.  No surprise there.  Same with Christmas gifts I have to mail.  I have officially run out of time.

There are probably more.  My mind is full of things to do.  Hopefully, I'll be able to slowly chip away at my to-do list.

    ~1~

This is our second and final weekend of Nutcracker.  There was a dress rehearsal tonight.  It was very fun.  I think everyone is feeling a bit froggy.  At the end, during the finale, Sister and 4 others come out as reindeer pulling the sleigh.  They take Clara across the stage.  Two other reindeer moms and I took their places.  It was fun and we had everyone just cracking up.

    ~2~

Honey has had the worst cough these last 18 hours.  We had to use Xopenex several times consecutively last night.  I tried to make an appointment.  No go.  I left a message for the on-call doctor at almost 8.  No call back.  (You gotta love government run healthcare)  Luckily, I have a dear friend whose husband is a doctor (he is a good friend as well).  He came over and checked her out.  She's got an upper respiratory infection.  He gave Brother some antibiotics too since he's not been himself for about 4 days.  Hopefully, this will take care of it all and no one else will go down.

Oh, and her first thought was she would dance tonight.  She couldn't leave her partner hanging.

    ~3~

Ben has arrived in Kuwait and is awaiting the planes to take him to his final destination.

    ~4~

    I'm not ready for Christmas.

    ~5~

Every year I say I need to get Christmas shopping/gift making done before Nutcracker season starts.  Each year, I fail.  Now, I plan on starting gifts in January.  I need to make out my plan.

    ~6~

I also have lesson plans to work on.

    ~7~

But, the week from Christmas to New Year's will be to-do list free.  Besides the basics, there will be absolutely think I HAVE to do.  Actually, I refuse.

  • My brother attended the Saturday showing of the Nutcracker in Temple.  Of course, as a photographer, he couldn't help but take pictures of his nieces.  His pictures are way better than mine.  In the process, he took pictures of the whole ballet.  They're gorgeous!  Take a look.
