ht: The Common Room
Our homeschool group has been getting together for a children's stations of the cross. After we head to someone's house for a soup and bread dinner. Tonight is my turn to host. The children have been VERY excited for everyone to come over. Here are pictures after the stations were completed and we all prayed for the intentions of the Pope.
The weather has been so nice although a bit hot. Actually, last week was quite cold. It was 80 degrees on Tuesday and then it dropped into the 40s on Wednesday. It was crazy. Our garden is ready for planting. I've sent my husband to the home improvement place several times already for supplies. Now, we just need to get to work. The soil is too moist to do anything right now. I think by Saturday we should be okay.
At the Korean War Memorial, there is a wall that states, "Freedom is not free". All families who have lost soldiers (and all military) members knows this is true. I also think that everyone who is connected in some way to the military know this as well. Our soldiers fight for our American ideals with freedom being the number one item.
It is there ironic, that a mom who used to be in our homeschool group is not being allowed to exercise her rights mainly freedom of speech. We are free to express our opinions. This lady had put an anti-abortion sign in her window. Someone complained. The MPs came and asked her to take it down. She complied as she does live in quarters. A few days later, the MPs came knocking again. They wanted her to take the bumper stickers off her car. She refused as the car is personal property. She's been banned from this military installation until she complies.
Isn't it ironic? She is not allowed to express her opinions even while her husband has fought for those very freedoms.
No, not me, although I'm about 15 pounds above my ideal weight. I'm talking about our food. Our particular brand of saltines have lost about 5 crackers per sleeve. Now, the box is the same size, but there's a big gap in the top of the sleeve of crackers. Our graham crackers have slimmed down about a half an inch. There are less cookies in the packages of Girl Scout cookies. I don't mind paying a few cents more for the same amount so I wish they'd raise their prices instead. I feel deceived by these manufacturers. That's a worse feeling to me. I'm one of those customers with quite a bit of brand loyalty but I'm feeling quite deceived so I may switch.
1. I exercised twice this week (and twice last week). I would've tonight but we had what is number 2.
2. Stations of the Cross. Our homeschool group did a children's stations of the cross. It was nice. We even had a couple of dads.
3. Three days of school without fuss. It's been nice. Brother has even finished in a timely manner.

The next chapter in our Army saga begins this October. Ben will be PCSing (Permanent Change of Station) into a new job and this new job deploys him to either Iraq, Kuwait or Afghanistan or all three. His job description is classified as is his locations. I won't get into how we ended up at this point as it was not pleasant and I don't want to get upset all over again (I mean, really, they asked for him by name here locally!) He will be gone for a year.
The time between now and then will be full. I'll be getting prepared for his departure mentally as well as getting the house more in order. It had been part of my Lenten plans, but now it's really crucial. I am blessed with a great support system of friends and family nearby.
We will be taking advantage of Disney World's special Armed Forces discount (free 5 day pass for active duty soldiers and 5 $99 five day companion passes) to visit that fun place for the first time. Unfortunately, our visit will be in a hot summer month, but it'll still be fun.
You have served me well, but after 15 years, you must leave. A cold dryer is not welcome at this home. Washer, you do work well still but, alas, this anal person cannot have mismatched machines. Farewell…
…and welcome, new machines! For a minute I thought you would not fit, but you had an inch to spare.
