• I love these quizzes.  I especially love the last line because Ben thinks I’m really complex while I think I’m really easy to please.

    You Are a Cappuccino
You’re fun, outgoing, and you love to try anything new.
However, you tend to have strong opinions on what you like.
You are a total girly girly at heart – and prefer your coffee with good conversation.
You’re the type that seems complex to outsiders, but in reality, you are easy to please
  • A little bit ago, I was thrilled to notice that I was on the list of one of my favorite bloggers.  Then I just noticed I’m no longer on that blogroll of her favorites.  What is it about me that I crave such approval.  It devastated me!!  I shouldn’t be because it’s not end all to my life, but all I could think was, did I say something she didn’t like?  How did I offend her that she took my blog off her list?

In thinking these thoughts, I realize that I don’t need to seek approval from anyone else.  I just need to do what God wants.  It’s difficult for me to get past this, but it’s a great learning experience for me.  I feel like such an adolescent high schooler, but there it is.  I think it’s God’s way of keeping me humble.  Humility is one of the most difficult things for me.

When you think of it, please say a quick prayer for me to see the way.  Oftentimes lately, I’m feeling adrift.  Thank you.

  • Ben’s Great-Uncle Richard is a priest who officiated at our wedding and baptized all four of our children.  He had a mild case of skin cancer on his hand a couple of years ago and had surgery to remove those lesions.  Well, the cancer is back and it’s come back in the form of tumors on his hand.  The doctors are planning on amputating his hand.

I’m asking for your prayers for this dear man.  He is in his 80s.  He will most likely be moved in the archdiocese’s nursing home in Boston.  I don’t know the date of his surgery yet, but I’m pretty sure it’s soon.

My sister is going in for hernia surgery this Thursday, the 19th.  Please pray for an uncomplicated procedure.  It’s outpatient and isn’t supposed to be complicated, but it is surgery.

I thank you for your prayers.

  • Margaret had a post about praying in front of an abortion clinic.  I read it just after reading about women who were devastated by miscarriage.  I posted the comment, "It saddens me that the women in your latest post are so devastated by their losses and yet these women aren’t."

Driving to a doctor’s appointment, I realized I was not being charitable.  I was harshly condemning these women.  I realized that while what they did was absolutely wrong, the circumstances are unknown.  Some of these women may have not been strong enough or had enough faith or had enough support to not have an abortion.  So, instead, I will condemn the action and pray for the person.

The only thing my son remembers about my idea of what Disneyworld would be like was the long lines.

  • Cheryl tagged me for this meme.  It was amazing how quickly I was able to come up with 5.

    Here are the Rules:

Those tagged will share 5 things they “love” about Jesus.
Those tagged will tag 5 other bloggers.
Those tagged will provide a link in the comments section here with their name so that others can read them.

    1. He loves me.
    2. He teaches me.
    3. He gave His all for us.
    4. He gave us the Eucharist.
    5. His mother, Mary.

I’m going to cheat and tag 5 of my cyber-buddies: Margaret in Minnesota, Alice, Jennifer, Matilda, and Meredith; and 5 of my IRL buddies, Sue, Jess, Karen, Jennifer, and Emily.

Here is Brother’s rendering of the authors of the Gospels at work.  From left to right are John, Mark, Matthew, and Luke.  Matthew has a frown on his face because he was having trouble writing.

  • I’ve been in labor once.  My oldest was huge (although I’ve met women who’ve birthed bigger children with no problems)–he came out at 10 lbs 6 oz.  After laboring for 9 hours and pushing for 3, contractions were stalling out so the doctor decided to do a c-section.  My other children were planned c-sections.  Now, I’m pointing out that I only went into labor once because while in Hawaii, I visited a sacred place that blew me away.

Apparently, back in the day, women who were birthing future chiefs would labor here.  On these stones.  With men watching.  The entire time.  Did I mention the 36 male chiefs watching?  Then when the baby is born, the child is whisked away from the mother until adulthood.

Honey was the only one who wanted to come with me.  This was right behind the sign.

Not one of the birthing stones.

Here are the stones.  They don’t look very comfortable.  And, to top it all off, you had to be in certain positions on certain stones at different times during labor.

  • We love shave ice.  It’s shave not shaved.  The kids love it and so do I.  It’s one of the things they talk about all the time.  It’s absolutely delicious.  They are like snow cones, but the ice is so delicate–it’s really soft.

The above pictures were taken the first time we had it.  Only Sister and Pumpkin really liked it at first (of the children that is–Ben and I loved it from the first bite).  We went Aoki’s.  It was easier because there were no lines and the parking was easy too.

We visited Aoki’s often.  One time, Pumpkin fell asleep on the way.  She slept the entire time we were there and woke up as we were leaving.  She protested quite loudly when she realized where we had been and what she had missed out on.

It was Sister, though, who loved it the most.  She asked for it every day.  The last week we were there, I tried taking her as often as possible.  Brother ate one flavor only, root beer while Honey had to have vanilla along with other flavors.  Pumpkin didn’t care as long as it was green.  Me?  I had whatever was left over.
