• that children always throw up when they’ve eaten something that stains?  I think I will ban all colored food from the house!!!  Poor Honey threw up after a particularly nasty coughing fit.  She had blueberries as a snack this evening.  Ugh.

  • Diagnosis:  Allergic reaction to amoxicillin.

    Phew!

  • Honey was failing miserably trying to wait for school to finish so that I could do something for her.  This exchange had me cracking up.

Honey:  How do you spell "now"?

    Me:  N-O-W

Honey:  I need you to do it N-O-W!!

Poor guy, it’s itching him like crazy.  This doesn’t look like chicken pox.  I hope it’s just a reaction to his medication and not a virus.  If it’s a virus, I apologize in advance to all my friends for exposing you to this at Honey’s party.

  • We have never thrown a birthday party for my children where we invited their friends.  We usually moved before we could do that.  This year we had our very first friends party for a birthday.  And, for once, Honey got to do something first before any of her siblings.

We had 15 adults and 28 children including our own family.  I had closed off the playroom because I just could not bear the thought of having to pick up all those toys once the party ended.  Our friends always help clean up but it takes weeks for things to get back to normal and we had just finished organizing the playroom this week.  I know some of the children were disappointed, but there were plenty of toys in the girls’ room and in Brother’s room.  I also borrowed a nice pool from a friend and put out a couple of sprinklers for the kids.  Half the children played outside, but the weather was not very hot so they were chilled pretty quickly.

Lunch was frozen Tombstone pizza which is, apparently, a great favorite among this set.  We had seven pizzas and one slice was left by the end of the party.  I had also baked a couple of thin California Pizza Kitchen pizzas as well.  The adults enjoyed these.  The cake was a 1/2 sheet of chocolate and white (although this chocoholic has absolutely no idea why kids would even ask for the white).

Honey doesn’t like to be the center of attention so Daddy had to be there for her (I was behind the camera).

Here are some more photos of the kids who were in attendance and devouring the pizza.

Here’s Honey with her friend.  They were so cute together.

A couple of the boys are pictured here.  The boys are outnumbered 2 to 1 in our homeschool group, but for the most part there are boys of similar ages like these two.

All in all it was a great party.  By limiting the children to the backyard and the two bedrooms, clean up was easier.  We get to party again next week, but this time someone else will be hosting the party.  I guess it’s birthday season.

  • Brother has a rash.

    Img_5683

It started out this morning as like this just below his neck and between his shoulder blades.  As you can see it’s spread.  I didn’t have any luck with a doctor’s appointment.  I left a message for the triage doctor to call me.  As you can imagine, he had no idea (as if he could tell over the phone).  One possibility is an allergic reaction to the amoxicillin but we’re not sure yet.  The doc seemed really anxious to get off the phone.  Anyway, we now have an appointment for 3pm tomorrow.  The rash had at one point this evening merged together into one big splotch from one shoulder blade to the other.  It was itching to I went out and bought some Benadryl cream and applied it.

His chest which is not so bad but it had been clear this morning.  Right before falling asleep, he came downstairs to share the bumps growing on his neck.  I hope I don’t end up in the emergency room with this.

I did learn something new today.  A very good friend lets us bug him about medical questions.  He’s a very intelligent man and a doctor I would use if he were in the field I need him in (he’s not).  Oh, well.  Anyway, I had called to ask if we should discontinue the amoxicillin since the triage doc neglected to tell me one way or the other (and I couldn’t ask the question fast enough).  Then I asked if I could just put some hydrocortisone cream on it.  He said no.  Apparently, hydrocortisone cream is an immunosuppresant.  So, if the rash if caused by a virus (unknown at this point), it would suppress the immune system on the rash and cause the rash to grow more–we’d be sort of feeding it.  I love learning these tidbits of information.  Thanks, Carl (our fav doc)!!!

I’ll update you as soon as I know.

  • Happy Birthday, my sweet Honey.  I love you dearly.

  • Apparently, this is the week of medical problems.  Pumpkin started to limp and then refused to walk at all last night.  She couldn’t take a step without her right leg giving out on her.  I debated with myself for about 20 minutes before Ben stepped in and said I should take her.  So, I did.  We spent 7 hours in the waiting room before being seen.  Apparently, a 2 year old who can’t walk is categorized a 4 on a 5 point scale with 1 being the most urgent.  Ugh.  I debated leaving, but was afraid I wouldn’t get an appointment at the peds clinic the next morning and would end up back at the ER.  I should’ve gone home.  I was finally at the point of if the next time the nurses call names and we’re not called, I’m driving to the peds clinic (which opens at 7–it was almost 5 am by this time) and demanding to be seen when they opened.  Luckily, (for me or for the peds clinic), Pumpkin’s name was called.

From start to finish, we were out in 1 1/2 hours.  I almost wished it lasted longer because we were getting comfortable on the hospital bed with a blanket.  Speaking of blankets–why is the waiting area SO cold?

Diagnosis:  They don’t know.  She doesn’t have a broken bone.  No dislocated joint.  The doctor was concerned about an infection in her joints caused by an upper respiratory infection (she was coughing, but I think it’s allergies).  Anyway, we’re home.  I’m a bit rested because Ben stayed home to let me sleep a little.  Pumpkin and I slept together for about 4 hours.  It was bliss.

I’m a day behind schedule in preparing for a birthday party, but at least my mind is at peace.

I’m leaving you with yet another picture from Hawaii–one of Pumpkin with what she considers posing.  It’s very cute.
