I hadn’t planned on posting about this at all but I’ve decided I need to take action. One of the young men who’s been nominated has a wonderful blog. He should win (okay so I’m biased). This post really got to me. You should really read it. So, please vote for this blog, Van Goal, for Best Teen Blog.

It was a gloomy, cold day on Easter. Luckily, I had purchased the matching sweaters to the beautiful dresses.
We celebrated our dinner on Saturday because one of my brothers had to leave during the day before we could have a nice family meal. It was nice to get together with family even if we did miss the great snowstorm of 2007 (4 inches of snow does qualify as a snowstorm). My brother, Patrick had invited his fiance over–yes, he’s getting married!–for dinner. It’s nice getting to know her although in this family, you’ll have to be louder to be heard.
By the time this photo was taken, we’d already taken about 20 shots of just the kids. They were tired of photos and we really had to rush out so we could make it to church.
If you look behind us, you can see that my mother decorates her house with pictures of her grandchildren.

That’s how much hair was cut…initially.
If you take a look at my sidebar, I’ve finally added a picture. That’s how short my hair is now. The people who come around and sweep the hair up came around about 6-7 times. I have a lot of hair. The hairdresser was joking that I had dulled the blades on his scissors. I believe it.
I didn’t stand in a very good place when Ben took this just hours after the haircut. For a while there I felt pretty hip and cool. Now, I can’t get it to look precisely right, but it’s an improvement. Now, let’s see how long I can keep this up. I can go back for a free shape up in about 3-4 weeks so I probably will, but I don’t think I can keep getting this cut redone by the same place as it’s a very expensive place. I rationalized that I hadn’t had a haircut in almost 3 years and it was costing me about $2.50 a month. ๐

I wish I had beautiful pictures to add to this post about the resurrection of Jesus, but I don’t. I’m not there yet in terms of my faith maturity and knowledge. So, I will talk about how cold it is. I know, I know. Some of you in the northern climates have it much colder. However, it was in the 80s earlier this week. I had the air conditioner on. Then we left for my parents’ house. I checked the weather as I always do so pack correctly. I didn’t do a great job. I left the heat off so it’s freezing now. And, to top it all off, this crazy weather is giving us 80 degree days from Tuesday on.
Oh, and it snowed here. My son’s been begging for snow and it comes when we are away. Just an hour, but it might as well have been states away.
All this to say that we had a wonderful, blessed Easter weekend. When I get a chance, I’ll post pictures of my new hair. It’s a shocker!!

Today towards the end of mass, Honey turned to me and asked, "When can I be a nun?" I was not sure I heard right so I asked, "A nun?" She answered, "When I’m a grown up? I can be a nun when I’m a grown up?" Then she said, "You thought I wanted to be a mommy?" All I could do was to kiss and hug this precious child.

Mass today held special meaning for our family because Ben was such an integral part of mass. It brought home to me what Jesus was doing when he washed the feet of the apostles. Ben was absolutely mortified by the whole thing. Then my friend, Veronique walked by and said, "Now, he knows how the apostles felt."
I also think that God was finding a way to get us to church today. I’d been waffling between going and not. This sealed the deal for us. The service was beautiful and I learned so much today.
Have a blessed weekend everyone.
PS Do you think I think about blogging too much (even though I’m not very prolific) when I wished I could take a picture so I could place it on my blog?

Today is Holy Thursday and we will be attending mass tonight at 7pm. Ben has been chosen to be one of the apostles and Father Richard will be washing his right foot. My mother said that it is such an honor to be chosen and I can’t agree more. Ben is completely mortified–he is an introvert and the thought of him being in front of the whole church is a daunting thought. I’ll post later about how it went.
I guess we couldn’t have a full Holy Week without some works of mercy. I’m tending to sick children of all sorts of ills and I can’t get an appointment. Honey is recovering from strep, Sister may have just come down with it, Brother is complaining of an earache. Nothing from Pumpkin yet. I am waiting for the on call triage doctor to call so that he can tell me what I should do.

HT: Many, many of my favorite blogs.
Youโre St. Melito of Sardis!
You have a great love of history and liturgy. Youโre attached to the traditions of the ancients, yet you recognize that the old world โ great as it was โ is passing away. You are loyal to the customs of your family, though you do not hesitate to call family members to account for their sins.
Find out which Church Father you are at The Way of the Fathers!

From Sister Wendy’s Meditations on the Mysteries of Our Faith
, page 31:
Lent asks us to scrutinize, calmly and in the presence of God, what direction our actions have led us and will lead us. Are we directed toward God? Or toward ourselves? Do we forgive? Do we pray? Do we try to be patient? The list is endless. Jesus offers his blessing to anybody who is sincere and seeks him. But what blessing can he give–however much he wants to–if we are only going through the motions, like the "good people" in Duccio’s painting? Better to be an ass than a nominal Catholic!
