My third confirmation class is tonight.  I’m supposed to let them know who my confirmation saint is, but I’m just having a tough time.  I think maybe I’m approaching this the wrong way.  So, I thought I’d ask you.  Who is your saint and why did you choose him/her?

My saint is saint Jean de Chantal. I really think that she chose me, not the other way around. I was pnly in the 8th grade when I was confirmed and I wanted to find a saint named “Jane”. She was the one I found, and I learned many years later that she was the first spiritual directee of the saint who led me to my conversion. That she and I share that bond, is, to me, heaven-sent.

Mine is St. Therese of Lisieux. My father grew up in a parish named for her. One of his sisters (and also herself a religious sister) has a great devotion to her. She always gave me Therese gifts growing up. Things like chaplet beads, fourth class relics, holy cards, novena prayers, etc. I now have a devotion to her of my own.

WOW. What a great idea. If you haven’t picked a saint already, your should 1000% pick St. Therese of Lisieux. I read your blog, and she fits in so perfectly with what you write about being a mother and wife and in your household. She devoted herself to her philosophy of her “little way”, achieving Jesus’ works through all of the little things we do every day. You can read all about it at http://www.littleflower.org. The best part it SHE WAS INCREDIBLY STUBBORN! So when you’re feeling frustrated some days, you’ll know that even saints feel that way sometimes. There is a good book that they made into a good movie, both are called “Household Saints.” It is a sort of modern take on St. Therese, this young woman becomes obsessed with her, it’s in the 1960s. It’s sad to watch of course, it deals with some sad themes, so if you catch it on TV, BE PREPARED.
EXCELLENT suggestion Mary Ann, nice work.
