The 3rd weekend in August is supposed to be peak bat time here in Texas.  We have an underpass where the bats live in downtown Austin, but nearer to my parents in Round Rock, there's a smaller group of bats.  This smaller group is nothing to sneeze at though.  It was interesting to watch them fly out.  The bats started from closer to the northern part of the underpass and then moved down to the southern part.  I didn't even realize they were that organized.

When looked at from afar, it looks like huge flocks of birds.  It's really quite amazing to watch.

Now for the gratuitous kid shots.

I love the bats at the McNeil bridge. We happened upon them one twilight evening and were delighted to see them fly.
We have bats in our neighborhood in Kansas. We watch them come out at night, but it is nothing like the Austin bats. Just one or two, here and there.
Awesome shots! The kids look wonderful! We sure do miss you all in Texas!

I keep saying I’m going to head down to see the bats, but never have. It’s such an inconvenient time of day! One day…..

Usually our bats only come out LATE at night and stay away from the house. However, over the last week they’ve been out as early as 6:00 pm and have been flying right by me when I’m barbecuing on the deck!

I was fascinated by the bat photos, and then realized maria has the same pink top, and Dominic has the same yellow top as your kids in the photos! 😉
