My son was older when he received the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.  He was ten.  Usually, you are around 7 or 8 (second grade).

I worried about whether he got it.  I need not have worried.  He does.  He is a literal person so it was very easy to understand (and believe) that Communion involved the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.

He just knows.

God just takes care of him.  We are truly blessed.

My son (I commented about above) is receiving his First Communion at the end of this month along with his 12 year old brother (we are recent converts). I have been nervous about it for the same reasons you expressed, and especially because our son has very limited speech (so it’s not like I can quiz him to see if he’s getting it).
Thank you for sharing this about your son. I feel deep down that our son actually has an easier time grasping and accepting spiritual truths, so I know I shouldn’t worry, but this is all so new for me in general that I can’t help but be a little nervous – and very excited!
