HT:  Dawn.  These are so fun to do.

  • All my brothers are graduates of Texas A&M.  There are always running jokes about being an Aggie.  They run along the same lines as the old Polish jokes.  Anyway, one of my brothers had such an Aggie moment.

He was sitting on the sofa looking at my real live Christmas tree.  Then he turns to me and asks, "Is that the same tree you had last year?"

  • This post is too late for the Parade of O Antiphon houses but I wanted to share mine with you.

The paint is a bit uneven and the words are definitely not centered, but I did not have much time to put it together.  The kids loved it though and loved putting the cube in the right place.  I put each O Antiphon in a random spot and the kids had to figure it out.

I had planned on having the kids paint some decorative wooden shapes today as a finale, but with hubby sick in bed, it just didn’t happen.

I am a terrible artist so I took the images from Catholic Culture and Mod Podged them to the cubes.  Once again, next year I will make sure the pieces of paper are bit more even.  I’m really anal about things like that.

Anyway, thank you to Katherine for this wonderful idea and to Jenn for her wonderful resources.

  • My nephew was discharged this evening after emptying his bladder for the first time in days.  We are all so relieved.  Thank you all for your prayers.  I know they helped tremendously.

  • Apparently, it is the season to be sick.  My nephew is hospitalized due to his inability to urinate.  I ask for prayers that the doctors are able to find out what is wrong, that his parents keep up their spririts, and that his younger brother is able to do without his mother.

    Thank you all.

  • Nissa at Simple Gifts has a cookie carnival up on her blog.  Get a mug of tea, sit back and drool over these scrumptious recipes.

  • Oh, my!!  My sidebars are so out of date.  Those books are from September!!  Okay, next week should be a quiet week.  Hubby will be home several days so I am going to update.  Stay tuned.

  • About a week and a half ago, we went on a field trip with our homeschool group to the Salado Christmas tree farm.  We had picked the date weeks in advance.  Wouldn’t you know it, the day ended up being one of the coldest we’ve had.

Here we are on the hay ride.

The gentleman driving us gave us a wonderful tour of the farm.  He first showed us the horses.

See the coats on them?  We Texans just were not used to this cold (it was in the 40s!!).

This tree has an interesting story.  Apparently, deer use trees to help with the itchiness they get when their antlers grow.  New growth is very velvety and itchy so deer will use a tree to rub their antlers.  Well, the deer use the same tree every single year.  In order to save the other trees, the tree farm leaves this tree for the deer to use.  Wasn’t that an interesting tidbit?

Now for our tree.  Here it is at the farm.

The machine shakes all the loose leaves and branches off.  It was so cold the water had frozen over.  The shaker broke off the frozen water.

Wrapped up tight for loading on top of our suburban.  The man was gracious to tie it down well for us.

Here it is in our house.  I used purple lights for Advent (I got the idea from another blogger, but can’t remember exactly who it was).  We will continue to leave it like this until Christmas Eve when we will decorate with all our ornaments.  The kids are working on Jesse tree ornaments, but we are ever behind.

  • As promised, here are our photos taken at Sears.

  • Yesterday we had a very busy day.  We attended daily mass, went to the parish hall for a bit of fellowship, and then rushed off to therapy.  Therapy lasts for 2 hours (speech, occupational and physical).  After therapy, we went home and had lunch.  The children played for about half an hour and then we left for a homeschool friend’s house.  We spent about 2 1/2 hours there playing and doing crafts.  Then we left to pick up Papa for dinner at another friend’s house.  I came home exhilerated after all this great company.

About a year and a half ago, I never would have imagined these events happening in my life.  I prayed and asked for prayers from the lovely ladies at the 4Real Messageboards for some friends in real life (IRL).  I had just found the ladies on the messageboard and that had been a God send.  I had been floundering with just about everything and feeling SO lonely.  Then I found my local Catholic homeschool group.  Ah.  This is what I’ve been needing.

So, in the spirit of Thankful Thursday, here’s who I am thankful for:

    • God for answering my prayers.
    • My internet friends who have held me up in prayer when I needed it and who have inspired me so much in my faith.
    • My homeschooling group especially my dear friends V, JR, JW, and E.  There are more but these 4 really gave me so much when I needed it a year ago.
    • My husband who is becoming even a better friend since his return from Iraq.
    • Mary, the Mother of God, for setting the example I sorely need.
    • My friend K who I met in the waiting room at the therapy clinic.

Excuse my grammatical mistakes.  I could go ask my husband what I should use (who or whom), but I don’t think I will.  As my sister often says to her husband when she makes grammatical mistakes:  "I’m an immigrant (never mind the fact that I’ve been here since I was 3 years old). 🙂
