• Kim at Starry Sky Ranch, a 4Real mom, had her baby!!  Welcome to the world, Therese Claire (Tess).  Congratulations to Kim and her family.

  • Every Christmas I dress the children in their Christmas best and march us all down to Sears for our family portrait.  This picture is one of the few pictures we have of me.  I am always behind the camera so it’s very rare that we have pictures of me.  It’s also in my plans that the picture of me will have me looking my best.  It’s a win-win situation.

I try to get our photos taken early (as in the end of October or the beginning of November).  Well, this year, we’re way, way behind.  We had or photos done yesterday.  The session went very well.  Our family portrait turned out okay with almost all the kids smiling.  Then we had the children take a photo together without the parents.  Pumpkin didn’t want to take the picture, but the photographer had a trick up her sleeve:  a chair.  What munchkin can resist a kid size chair.  The only problem was that she refused to be in any other pose.  Oh, well.  The photos turned out really well and they looked beautiful and handsome.  If I can figure out how to download the pictures from their site, I will post them.

After our session, we went to take a picture with Santa.  Honey and Pumpkin did not like it at all.  Pumpkin screamed and threw a fit while Honey stood there with a fake smile plastered on her face.

All in all a good photo taking day.

  • Please welcome little Maria Faustina Immaculata Quigley to this world.  Isn’t this blessed child beautiful?  And, look at how great her mother looks!!!  Congratulations, Quigleys!!

  • Brother has a bear he has called Edward (from Thomas the Tank Engine).  He likes to talk about all the things that Edward says and does.  Today he told Daddy that Edward’s last name is Sippi because his father is Mr. Sippi and his mother is Mrs. Sippi.

What’s even funnier is that he didn’t even realize he had made a funny joke.

  • I am a revert to Catholicism.  I strayed sometime during my latter years in high school.  My parents worked very hard seven days a week to keep food on the table so church was not a high priority for them.  They tried to get us to church for mass every Saturday, but often fell short.  Then, when I was able to drive, I sort of stopped going.  In college, I started a slow trek back to Catholicism.  It often went more like one step forward and two steps back.

I started attending church on a regular basis after I married.  The ceremony itself was not as sacred to me as it should have been.  It was the wedding not the sacrament that seemed more important.  The importance of religion in my life all started to change when I became pregnant with my son.  My journey in spirituality has been slow going and has only recently been spurred forward rapidly.  I have homeschooling to thank for that.  The path I have chosen out of necessity for my autistic child has led me here to this point.

All of this to start talking about Advent at my home.  Advent to me was the four weeks leading up to Christmas.  That’s it.  I only knew that we lit the candles at mass.  I didn’t understand why we had 3 purple and one pink.  Now I do.  My oldest is 8.  For years, the emphasis was on the presents.  These past three years, I’ve been trying to get the emphasis on the birth of Jesus.  We do the Advent wreath.  It has helped us to center our thoughts on the "reason for the season".  There have been so many good ideas floating in my head from all the different blogs that my head was spinning.  After reading Amy’s post, I realized that I just need to take the time do something that will make an impact on my children.  So, they do not remain lost as I did for so many years.

I don’t blame my parents.  They did the best they could under the circumstances.  Now, I want to make sure I do the best and teach my children all about the beauty of Advent starting with the wreath and then moving on to our newest activity this year–the Jesse tree.

  • Amy reminds us in her creative way to not get caught up in all the activities we could be doing.  Read her post.

  • I am so late with this post.  Actually, I’ve been late with everything.  If only my boxes would unpack themselves.  Sigh.

Anyway, check out Jenn’s fair on the Loveliness of Advent.  There are so many neat ideas there a mother as disorganized as I couldn’t possible implement them all.  However, you all can pick and choose what works for your family.  Grab a mug of tea (it’s actually in the 30s here in Central Texas–down almost 50 degrees from yesterday) and enjoy.

  • I was going to write a post about our fried turkey for my New England inlaws, but it took me so long to get my new camera connected to download the pictures that I’ll have to postpone it.  Instead, I wanted to show you our cell phone collection when everyone is home.

    Your Result: The Northeast
